O, NoNo. That used to be the way in Holland, but things have been changing the last few years. Taxes are still high, but the citizens are not.

Are orange dykes an example of synesthesia? Who needs mushrooms when you've got that?
Also, what color are they the next day?

I traded in Medal of Honor and replaced it with a newer, better WWII game, Call of Duty: World at War.

For all of you others who own World at War on your Wiis, we can now play each other.

I also got World of Goo, which is a pretty nifty puzzle game in which you play with goo. Gooey goo. Do you choose to chew goo too sir? If you do sir, chew sir, do sir.

That one's only online in leaderboard form. There's a global contest to see who can build the tallest goo tower. Gooey!

World of Goo was awesome! Kick arse game.
I kinda quit doing the tower once I realized I didn't win anything..

You win fame, man! Prestige! You could have the highest tower of living goo blobs in the world! Just think of it...

I also got Mirror's Edge... And other stuff, but the games are the ones that I'll be spending the most time with.

Among the other stuff is a copy of WALL-E, which Norah now watches every day.

The CammoBlammo family went shopping on Boxing Day, hoping to snag a cheap Wii in the sales. It turns out that very few places reduce the price of games consoles, ever. They still asked for a cool $AU400.

It didn't help that we could only find one store open carrying the blighters. Everyone else decided to have a four day weekend. So I'm stuck in pseudo-holiday mode waiting for people to post to the DC forum. I just want to get my hard-earned money (I didn't earn it, but someone did!) and buy a Wii.

I want a Wii!

I hope you do get a Wii, but buyer beware! The Wii has a bizarre mix of games: 92% of its library is utter crap, while the other 8% is very good or totally awesome. This is different from the other systems, which all have nice bell curves. Do not EVER but a Wii game on a whim just because it looks neat. You will get burned.

Make sure to do some homework and know about a game before you buy it. That way your Wii will bring tears of joy, not tears of pain.

Hmm.. I kinda feel that way about any game. I bought a game on a whim back in the 90's for the NES. Absolute piece of carp. Never bought a game on a whim since then.

True, but if you bought a 360 game at random, chances are you'd end up with something that was in the bad-to-meh range. There isn't any use denying that the Wii in this generation's shovelware bitch. If buy a Wii game at random, chances are the game will be so terrible that playing it will be less fun than just looking at your reflection in the blank screen.

To that list I will add the aforementioned World at War and Mercury Meltdown Revolution. Mario Kart is also pretty good, but no improvement over previous iterations. If you enjoy frantic, inane insanity, Warioware: Smooth Mooths is highly entertaining in very short bursts.

In a few months we're going to buy a couple of consoles for our church youth group. Wiis seem to be the most popular and the most amenable to group play. Am I right in this assessment?

And what games would people suggest? The kids we currently have are in the 10-15 year old range, so we don't want to get anything too, um, adult oriented.

Well, if mutliplayer fun is what you're after, I'd say to get a could of X Box 360s and copies of Gears of War. But you might not appreciate the fact that Gears features many instances of realistically rendered organs flying through the air, often as one character rips another in half with a chain saw. (I'm assuming that's probably what "adult oriented" means in your case.)

You can't go wrong with Mario Kart. Easy to pick up, allows for many players, intensely competitive. Super Smash Brothers in a good fighting game without much violence that also shares those virtues (although you can't get more than 4 players at once on it). Super Mario Galaxy isn't really multiplayer, but it's so beautiful that it's almost as fun to watch it as play it.

Yeah, if you want fun multiplayer but don't want flying brains, the Wii is probably your best bet. If flying brains are okay with you, 360 has a stronger lineup.

Games on a whim and MetroidPrime... I bought that game on a whim. In my years as a hard-working student, I loved to play games like Duke Nukem, so I thought Metroid Prime would be big fun on the GameCube. I sat down and started to play level zero. It's a non-level where you get your first gun and you have to pass it to start the game. I could not finish level zero! After a very long time trying, I decided to try this game some other time. That was years ago, the game is gathering dust ever since.
I failed and I hate that I'm too stupid to pass level zero.

I do looooove the Smash Bros. Melee and Brawl. I'm very very good at randomly hitting people in the head. I can smash, man.
I can NOT find the exit to level zero. I hate that.

I would buy a Nintendo GameCube. Those are very cheap, because everybody is buying a Wii. GameCube has great games like Mario Kart, Mario Party Games and Smash Melee. Newer versions of those games are now available for the Wii, but the 'old' ones are as much fun! We, in casa Sacha, play them all the time.

Don't buy Metroid Prime.

Wow... I'm honestly not sure how you managed that. The game, like, tells you what to do onscreen. It says things like "Press the R button now" and "shoot this thing right here."

Well, whatever you did, you surely weren't as bad as Mrs. Tweedy. I was trying to convince her to play Perfect Dark (a first-person shooter) with us. She said it was pointless: She'd just die. I said, no you won't. I will make you invincible and give you infinite rockets to shoot. I did that... And she got stuck in a corner. Literally. She got stuck in the corner of a square room and could not find her way out. After about 90 seconds she gave up and she hasn't tried an FPS against since then.

So don't feel too bad.

I played this really awesome game last week. It was called golf. I had a similar experience to Mrs. Tweedy. I guess that's why they call it a "trap". Anyway, the graphics are awesome, and there's minimal bloodshed, and it's not PC at all...imagine a game where everyone's handicapped!
Anyway, does anyone know where I can get a cheat book on this game? I've been stuck on level one forever.

Well, we took possession of our new Wii today, complete with Wii Sport. We picked up a Spyro the Dragon game while we were at it --- Mrs Blammo got rather addicted to the little guy in our PS1 days.

It appears we can't get remotes for at least two weeks, so we're stuck on single player games for a while. That's not a concern though---I have a Wii fit age of 80 apparently, so I've got work to do.

Anyway, I might go down to the video rental store tonight and see what they've got.

So basically, I love playing on the Wii. I haven't used a console this much since I retired my old, beloved SNES.

In a nutshell, you should probably play:

Endless Ocean (which, I might add, lets you swim with the Giant Squid)
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Brothers
Mario Kart
Rock Band (I'm told)
Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga
