Well, being triune, He could be a three-piece.

He isn't a rock god, I don't think, but the musician I've liked most for longest would probably be Andrew Osenga. But at the moment I'm totally hung up on MuteMath. I don't think any of them are rock gods either, though...

Since we're on the subject of rock musicians and idol worship, I thought it most interesting to read an article in this morning's NYTimes about Kanye West and Taylor Swift at the MTV Awards show. Apparently, the big splash was that West came on stage, took the mic from Swift, and said Beyonce should have gotten Swift's award.
The piece was followed by readers comments, most of which condemned Kanye's behavior. But the comment that got my attention was this one:

I cannot believe that West’s ridiculous behavior was considered the most outrageous moment on MTV. A performer asked everyone to hold hands and pray to Satan. The audience follwed as he led a prayer to Satan on National TV. Shame on MTV for allowing this and Shame on you for not reporting it.

This was followed by 12 pages of comments about what everyone agreed was the important issue: their opinion of Kanye West.

CLEARLY, here Satan has been answering the prayers offered up to him, demonstrating to anyone who would listen that he is the supreme being of the universe. (Take THAT, Richard Dawkins). But the Times, as usual, refuses to acknowledge all evidence of this supernatural power. Gray Lady, prepared to be mated with by the Prince of Darkness.

I believe Satan heartedly enjoys both Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and really anyone up for an award on an MTV program. Why he would exert earthly influence to create a division escapes me. He was too busy working with the producers and talking to sponsors to keep his eye on Kanye.

Satan is sponsored by MTV now? I thought MTV was sponsored by him. It's so hard to keep track of who owns who all these mergers and acquisitions always going on. You can't even tell if it's really Satan on your records anymore, or just a licensed likeness. It's worse than trying to tell if the dude at the mall is the real Santa Clause.

It's been a while since I worshiped any rock gods, but in my day, there was nothing better than the guys in Metallica. Then they sold out, hired Bob Rock as their producer, and turned to crap. They've been trying to get their stuff back together for the last two albums they've released, but it seems obvious that Satan is no longer responding to their voice mails.

But yeah, back when rock was rock, there was Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth (and to a lesser degree, Sammy Hagar), Scott Ian, and Kirk Hammett. I was a little too picky. I couldn't abide Dave Mustaine, or Iron Maiden or Axl Rose. Still can't.

Agreed......but I think Death Magnetic is almost as good as some of their earlier stuff. I'm really digging it.

Of course the two Jimmys were the greatest of all the rock gods. Clapton was good back in the Cream days but lost it later on.
