Public Service Announcement

Postby eric_marsh on Sat Oct 31, 2009 4:09 am

In this season of costumes, jack-o-lanterns, ghosts and goblins, please don't forget the true meaning of Halloween.

When is the last time that you have attended a Sabbat? Join a coven of witches this Samhain and dance naked around the bonfire to celebrate the season turning to the time of the crone.

Welcome your honored ancestors into your home. Tonight the veil between the worlds is at it's thinnest. Set out an offering of food and drink for the departed or hold a seance for friends and family who have passed through the curtain.

Halloween - It's more than just trick-or-treat.

<huff>... well, here I break my vow of drabble silence and finally post again and you bump me down the list 30 seconds later... </huff>

Just kidding. Nice Halloween drabble there. You've been on quite a roll lately. Enjoy it. As a past champion of mega-drabblage (now eclipsed by the likes of the rev, and yourself) I do have to issue the warning that burnout is inevitable.

Make the best of the fire within though, and we'll all continue to enjoy the fruit of your labors...

Yea, I've been having some trouble coming up with good ideas lately but as long as I'm having fun doing this I'll try to continue to write drabbles.

I've got to say that I've been inspired and motivated by the great fiction that I've been listening to on podcasts such as the Drabblecast, Pseudopod, Escape Pod, X Minus One (yes I know that it's retro) and my most recent find, Well Told Tales. When I was a kid (in the later 50s and 60s) I used to read a lot of science fiction from the master of that time. I tend to be too busy lately to sit down and read a book but listening to podcasts has given me a great way to listen to works by a new generation of talent, many of which are the equals to the greats of science fictions golden age.

Drabbles are to me a kind of literary kindergarten. Who knows - one day I may even feel courageous enough to take a step to the first grade and take a shot at a 500 word tale.

What? You wait for Halloween to do that?

LOL, That's a 3-point retort from the half-court line.
