The demise of Nathan

Postby revsleestaxx on Thu Oct 08, 2009 5:50 pm

Nathan knew the light was up to something. He could tell by the way it turned red.

There it was, red, and staring at him mockingly. "Ha, there you are in your car with the windows rolled down, and no AC, breathing the carcinogenic exhaust of the other foul humans."

Nathan lost control and jammed his horn, and the switch got stuck.

The felonious tow truck drive in front of him did not like the fact that his wife was a whore AND that Nathan's horn blaring behind him.

The tow truck driver grabbed his .38 to fix one problem.

Was someone stuck in rush-hour traffic yesterday? Hmm?

Well, really, killing Nathan wouldn't solve the guy's problem, since the horn is stuck. It will still be stuck even if he shoots Nathan.

Of course, the story is open to interpretation. It could be that the truck driver is actually wanting to help Nathan fix his horn, and he only grabs his gun because he doesn't want to leave it untended in the car. As he approaches, Nathan sees the gun, freaks out, and has heart attack and dies without being touched.

Or Nathan's demise could be of a more spiritual nature. Perhaps the sight of the angry truck driver motivates him to pray: He repents on his sins and "dies to himself" as the Good Book says. Or perhaps the driver helps him fix his horn and the two strike up a deep and meaningful conversation that leads to the same result.

And keep in mind that a ".38" isn't necessarily a gun: It could be any cylindrical object with a .38 inch diameter. A screw driver, perhaps? Or even an innocent hard candy stick, brought as a friendly gift.

Y'know, if it wasn't for the title of the story I'd even be willing to suggest he just shot Nathan's car.
